Who is Dante Sisofo?

Dante Sisofo is a street and documentary photographer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His passion for photography sparked in 2016 while studying photography at university. Sisofo’s work primarily involves photographing people, using the camera as a tool to explore the world. He emphasizes spontaneity in his work and practices street photography every day, often during the golden hour to capture vibrant light and color.

Sisofo’s early photography years were spent in Baltimore, and he also studied in Jerusalem at Hebrew University. His experiences include living in Jericho with a Palestinian family and joining the Peace Corps as a volunteer in Zambia, Africa. Sisofo has documented life in various locations, including the Palestinian refugee camp of Aqabat Jabere, exploring the complexities of life along the Israeli-West Bank border.

His project “Jericho, City of the Moon” is a combination of documentary and street photography, offering an intimate portrayal of people, culture, and resilience in challenging circumstances. Sisofo’s work has been recognized with awards, including first place in the Miami Street Photography Photo Slam in 2016, judged by Martin Parr, and he received a scholarship to learn under Magnum Photographer, Alex Webb, in 2018.

In addition to his street and documentary photography, Sisofo has experience in political photography, having worked as a photojournalist for the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in 2016 and as a field organizer during the presidential election, contributing to the election of President Joe Biden.
