Become the Übermensch

The concept of the “Übermensch” (often translated as “Overman” or “Superman”) originates from the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, particularly from his work “Thus Spoke Zarathustra.” It represents a set of ideas that are quite complex and open to various interpretations. Here are some key points:

  1. Beyond Traditional Morality: The Übermensch transcends traditional morality, which Nietzsche saw as life-denying and based on slave-morality. Instead, the Übermensch embodies master-morality, which values pride, strength, and individual nobility.
  2. Self-Mastery and Creation of Values: The Übermensch is someone who has mastered himself and his passions, has overcome his human nature, and is capable of creating his own values and determining his own meaning of life.
  3. Beyond Good and Evil: This concept is closely associated with Nietzsche’s idea of moving “beyond good and evil.” The Übermensch doesn’t abide by conventional moral standards but creates his own system of values.
  4. Existential and Artistic Living: The Übermensch lives life artistically and existentially, constantly striving to be better and to rise above the common herd, breaking away from the mediocrity of the everyday man.
  5. Not a Superior Race or Physical Being: It’s important to note that Nietzsche’s concept of the Übermensch is not about physical superiority or a superior race. It’s more about a state of being and mindset that transcends ordinary human concerns and morality.

The Übermensch is a controversial and often misunderstood concept. It has been variously interpreted and reinterpreted over time, sometimes in ways that Nietzsche himself might not have intended or agreed with.
