How I stay warm in the winter?

Staying warm during the winter months is important in order to continue practicing photography. What’s better than owning a Leica? Having a good coat and warm clothes to keep shooting during the cold months.

  • Down Jacket: Down seems to be the warmest material for the winter months. I personally use a Canada Goose XL Parka and it is impenetrable from the cold. Other options from Uniqlo are great as well.
  • Down vest: Double down? Sometimes it’s good to double down and wear a vest as an under later. Uniqlo and Lululemon have great options.
  • Sweater: I use the Lululemon knit sweater paired with a T-Shirt as my under layers.
  • Two pants: I wear two pairs of pants. One loose external layer that blocks the wind, and one internal sweat pant layer that keeps my legs cozy.
  • Wool socks: I recently picked up a pair of these alpaca wool socks, and they’re extremely warm for the winter months. I pair them with my ASICS Gore-Tex shoes, and they feel great.
  • Simple gloves: In order to operate my camera, I keep the gloves simple. Northface E-Tip are gear because they are thin, but just warm enough to keep my going.

George Washington Quotes

Certainly, here are some famous quotes attributed to George Washington:

  1. On Liberty and Government: “Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”
  2. On Preparation: “To be prepared for war is one of the most effective means of preserving peace.”
  3. On Freedom of Speech: “If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”
  4. On Happiness: “Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected.”
  5. On Influence: “Example, whether it be good or bad, has a powerful influence.”
  6. On Honesty: “I hope I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.”
  7. On Leadership: “A good moral character is the first essential in a man, and that the habits contracted at your age are generally indelible, and your conduct here may stamp your character through life. It is therefore highly important that you should endeavor not only to be learned but virtuous.”
  8. On Patriotism: “The name of American, which belongs to you in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism more than any appellation.”

Remember, while these quotes are widely attributed to Washington, the accuracy of historical quotations can sometimes be difficult to verify.

Founding Fathers

The Founding Fathers of the United States are a group of leaders who united the thirteen colonies, led the war for independence from Great Britain, and built a frame of government for the new United States of America during the late 18th century. Key figures among them include:

  1. George Washington: Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and the first President of the United States.
  2. John Adams: A leading advocate of independence in 1776, he later served as the second President of the United States.
  3. Thomas Jefferson: Principal author of the Declaration of Independence and third President of the United States.
  4. James Madison: Known as the “Father of the Constitution” for his pivotal role in drafting and promoting the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. He also served as the fourth President.
  5. Benjamin Franklin: A renowned polymath and one of the most famous of the Founding Fathers; he was deeply involved in the political, scientific, and diplomatic spheres.
  6. Alexander Hamilton: An influential interpreter and promoter of the Constitution, the founder of the nation’s financial system, and the founder of the first American political party.
  7. John Jay: The first Chief Justice of the United States and also a significant diplomat, contributing to the Treaty of Paris, which ended the Revolutionary War.
  8. James Monroe: Fifth President of the United States and the last president who was a Founding Father.

These men, among others, played significant roles in the formation of the new nation, both in terms of fighting for independence and in shaping the government and principles that define the United States.

Dream

The etymology of the word “dream” traces back to the Old English word “drēam,” which initially meant “joy” or “music.” However, its meaning evolved over time. In Middle English, it began to take on the sense of a “sequence of sensations, images, thoughts, etc. passing through a sleeping person’s mind,” which is how we understand it today.

Interestingly, this evolution in meaning may have been influenced by the Old Norse word “draumr” and the Middle Low German word “drom,” both of which had meanings related to dreaming and visions during sleep. This linguistic shift reflects how the concept of dreaming was understood and interpreted in different cultures throughout history.

Avoid the trap of sports.

What is sports, but merely a way for people to escape their lives through watching the lives of others? It also just creates mass hysteria in the streets. People get extremely angry, emotional, and usually break out into fights over sports. If you take a stroll through Samson Street, or any area where there are sports bars in the evenings, you will inevitably always run into sports fans arguing or fighting in the street.

Disconnect from the mainstream

Not in some hipster way, but for the betterment of humanity. There’s something so mediocre about modern society and culture that I believe it’s our duty revive tradition, beauty, and art.

EXPLORE

The etymology of the word “explore” traces back to Latin. It originates from the Latin word “explorare,” which means “to investigate, search out, examine, explore.” This term itself is likely derived from “ex-“, a prefix meaning “out,” and “plorare,” which means “to weep, cry.” However, in the context of “explorare,” the meaning of “plorare” shifts to “to call out, shout,” suggesting a sense of seeking or searching with effort or calling out.

Over time, “explorare” evolved into “explore” in English, acquiring the meaning of examining or investigating something thoroughly. This evolution reflects a shift from the literal act of crying out or shouting during a search, to the more metaphorical act of diligently searching or investigating.

Why photography is a superpower

I got my cape on!

I think that photography is a superpower because it allows you to find beauty in the mundane. You wind up finding joy in everyday moments that otherwise go unnoticed. The process of making pictures allows you to transcend time itself and create your own world.

Why does this matter?

To me, the ultimate bore is to be indoors. With this modern lifestyle of urban cities, 75% of the time people spend inside. To thrive, I believe you should be outside with fresh air under the sun. When I photograph, it allows me to be in a state of production and movement. This state of moving my body, physically through the world, and recognizing every day life, allows me to extract from life and create something out of nothing. It’s unlike any other medium of creating art. The camera becomes the key to unlock endless doors in life. The supreme superpower is experiencing and bearing witness to life itself.

Champion humanity

When it’s all set and done, the things we leave behind are what we have left of humanity. Creating beautiful works of art is the greatest gift humanity can leave behind. I believe in the notion that creating art is the supreme state of being as a human. Just think, say you are a billionaire… What are you to do with all of your money and time? Are you going to buy a big mansion and remain hidden in the ivory tower? No… the goal is to be out in the real world, experiencing life to its fullest potential. No amount of money, fame, etc. can provide you this.

When you make pictures, drawing, architecture, sculptures, etc. you are creating something, that is unique to the human experience. This is important because the more we advance with technology and merge with the machine, the less human we will be.

Endless bliss

With a camera in hand, it’s impossible to fall into a depression. With a simple click of a shutter button, you’re able to move through life with curiosity. At the end of the day, I’m merely curious.

How curious can one be in a lifetime?
