What does it mean to be “successful?”

Whether it’s the amount of money in your bank account, the clothes you wear, the car you drive, etc. there is a weird bias towards external things that determines somebody’s success in today’s modern world.

What makes somebody truly successful then?

I’d say it has to do with how much time you spend moving your physical body in the world. Real success, real freedom, is ultimately more time spent in the great outdoors.

The balance between the chaotic concrete jungle and the tranquil zen parks is the perfect yin and yang.

Photography should be easy

I’m not a fan of the notion 99% failure 1% success. All of these basic ideas of what makes a good or bad photograph are outdated and boring. We must go beyond the traditional approach to the medium and create new goals.

Photography shouldn’t feel “difficult.” If you’re fumbling with your camera, switch it to automatic mode. If you can’t find any interesting subjects, take a selfie?

There’s infinite ways to approach the medium but we get so caught up in other photographer’s perceptions of what is a worthy photo of praise or not.

I say fuck the tradition. Do everything they say not to do.
