Create mystery with street photography

When you are exploring the streets, don’t photograph in the most obvious way. Follow your intuition and what your gut tells you in the moment.

Create your own story

While observing a protest in the distance, I noticed a group of Jewish men dancing around a puddle on the ground. I decided to drop to the ground and use the elements to my advantage. Not only does the use of the reflection add mystery to the frame, but it is also creates another dimension to the photograph.

Photography is like solving a puzzle

As much as photography is a physical pleasure, it is a visual game. Great photographers react to the spontaneous nature of life by listening to your gut. The moment and life in front of you may be interesting, but that does not mean that the photograph will be. In order to make a strong frame, you must position yourself and your camera as the right place at the right time.

A great photograph is made by a photographer who throws themselves onto the frontlines of life.

Elevate life in your frame

You only have a few seconds to decide how to frame a scene. By getting closer to the subject, you can elevate the chances of you making something interesting. Look for gestures, movement, and any elements that you can include in your frame to make your photograph have more depth. By using reflections, light, shadow, etc. you can create a stronger street photograph that isn’t solely relying upon the moment itself.
