Oikonomía

The word economics comes from the Ancient Greek term οἰκονομία (oikonomía).

  • oikos (οἶκος) → “house,” “household,” or “estate”
  • nomos (νόμος) → “law,” “custom,” or “management”

So, oikonomía originally meant “household management” or “management of the household and its resources.”
