Generation

The word “generation” comes from the Latin “generatio,” which means “generation, generation, or begetting.” The root of this Latin term is “generare,” which translates to “to beget, produce, or create.” The word “generare” itself stems from “genus,” which means “race, stock, or family.”

Over time, the meaning of “generation” has broadened to encompass various concepts, including the act of producing or creating, the resulting offspring or produced entities, and the idea of a single step in the descent of a family. It’s also commonly used to denote all individuals born and living at about the same time, regarded collectively, often used to identify different social and technological cohorts (like the Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, etc.).
