Photography and the stream of consciousness

Lately I’ve been following my stream of consciousness when I’m out with my camera. I treat each photograph as a way for me to evoke the spontaneous nature of my mind. Whatever catches my eye, even if there’s only a 1% that it interests me, I will make a photograph. It’s important for me to keep my body moving and to photograph with speed and intensity. By embracing the snapshot and photographing this way, the work I create brings me more joy than ever before.

It’s a liberating process

The snapshot is liberating and playful. When you approach the streets with spontaneity, the results become more interesting and organic. Making perfect compositions and lining things up is actually kind of easy. I believe to let go requires more courage and honesty as the photographs become more raw and unfiltered. Embrace the unpredictable nature of life in your photography.

Evoke your emotions

Allow your thoughts and feelings to let loose. When you approach the streets with the stream of consciousness in mind, you can evoke your feelings through the work itself. This will make the photographs more personal and meaningful to you as they are fluid and spontaneous. Evoke the human experience and the multifaceted complexities of our thoughts, feelings, and experience on the street.
