Street Photography as a Way of Life

Street Photography as a Way of Life

More Than a Hobby

For those of us obsessed with street photography, it’s not just a hobby—it’s a way of life.

“Street photography allows me to exist outside the passage of time. It’s the closest thing to not existing.”

When you’re on the streets with your camera, you’re immersed in the present moment. Life flows toward you, and your role is simply to observe, document, and cherish the fleeting beauty of everyday life. This practice isn’t about freezing time—it’s about preserving the soul of the city.

The Eyes of Philadelphia

“I observe everything. I see it all. I am the eyes of Philadelphia.”

Street photography is about archiving the life and rhythm of the city. Every photograph becomes a part of its visual history—a way of remembering not just what the city looked like, but how it felt.

Simplifying the Process

My setup is designed to simplify the photographic process. With the Ricoh GR III:

  • High contrast black and white
  • Small JPEG files

This setup helps me focus on curiosity and longevity. With a camera small enough to fit in my pocket, photography becomes seamless. It integrates into daily life without disrupting it.

Always Ready, Always Creating

A small, unobtrusive camera lets you live your life while remaining ready to shoot. No need to carry a bulky setup or constantly adjust manual settings. The goal is to make photography a natural extension of your existence.

“With a small device in your pocket, you transcend what it means to be a photographer.”

This isn’t about being visibly a photographer with a camera around your neck. It’s about living in a way where photography flows naturally from your experiences.

Transcending Traditional Notions

We’re moving beyond outdated ideas of what a photograph or photographer should be. The focus shifts from documentary realism to creating artistic abstractions of life.

“I’m not interested in capturing life realistically anymore. I’m creating my own reality.”

Photography becomes personal—a reflection of your world, your vision. It’s not about mimicking life but about shaping it into something uniquely yours.

The World of Dante

This is about documenting my reality. My photographs are not just images; they are extensions of my life. They capture the energy of Market Street, the rhythm of the city, and the world as I see it.

“This is the life of Dante. This is the world of Dante.”

Street photography as a way of life is about embracing the world around you and making it your own—one frame at a time.
