The joy of photography

Photography provides my life with the ultimate joy. When I’m photographing, I forget about the past and the future, and I’m only living within the now. This is important to consider when it comes to practicing photography as it is merely something that fuels my lust for life.

Photography is pure bliss

When you recognize the patterns of both human behavior and nature itself, it feels like you can conquer the world. Understanding when to press the shutter button with the camera in hand, it feels like a superpower. This feeling is unlike any other medium within the realm of art, because of its physical and visual nature. Walking through life with a camera, provides me with some sense of wonder and curiosity that only a child can have.

Give your life meaning

Photography gives my life meaning. When I wake up in the morning I’m always wondering what’s out there. I’m simply asking questions with each photograph that I make. I want to continue going out into the world with curiosity at the forefront. Photography gives me this purpose in life that I cannot find within anything else. I suggest making pictures for yourself firstly. Don’t worry about an audience and keeping up with any other contemporary photographers. Define what life means to you through what you decide to include within your photographs.

Create your own world

When I look back through my photographs in my archive, I find that it’s my own unique perspective worth championing and sharing. I think that when you make photographs, it’s as if you’re creating your own worldview. I like this thought because it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I make work that resonates with my soul. I also feel this sense of pride in my own work. It feels good when you make pictures that bring you joy and shape how you view the world itself. Photography is joyful because you can express yourself and also share your world with others.

Stream of becoming

Treat your photographs like a stream of becoming. I find that when I continuously make new pictures, it’s always onto the next one. Don’t get caught up in perfectionism and just make pictures in a way that will sustain yourself throughout the many years to come. The goal is to ultimately photograph until the days that we die. This is something that I think about each and every day. The finite nature of humans and our fate is inevitably death. Treat the photos as a stream so you can continue flowing endlessly with longevity. Think legacy, and think about the world that you can leave behind through the photographs you make.
