What is the goal of an artist?

As artists, what is our goal? When we set out into the world with our camera, paintbrush, pencils, instruments, etc… What is our goal ultimately?

To articulate the unknown

When I consider street photography, I’m putting order to chaos. I’m making photographs on the street, sending myself into the abyss, the unknown. I respond to the world as it comes to me, photographing with serendipity, and observing candid life as it unfolds. I’m making sense of the world around me and getting closer to the meaning of life itself with a camera.

Share your perspective

Perhaps the ultimate goal of an artist is to merely share your perspective. Everything you see, do, and hear is unique to you. Your interpretation of the world and your direct experience is something worth sharing. The experiences you have can then be translated through the medium you choose to express yourself with. Whether you write a poem or a song or make photographs, your soul is evoked through what you create.
