Why I love cycling

Cycling is my favorite hobby besides photography. Here in Philadelphia, we have the Schuylkill River Trail, which extends very far into the state of Pennsylvania. This provides me with endless terrain to explore on my bike.

Zen focus

When I’m biking along the trail, I find myself in a state of zen. There are no distractions in front of me, and I can simply focus on the horizon in the distance. This is something that I can appreciate in the modern hustle and bustle culture of urban city life. The combination of gazing out into the distance as the trees move by left, and right, and the wind crashing upon my face evokes my inner conqueror spirit. One way I’ve been enjoying my recent bike rides is by zoning out with the Iliad playing via audiobook.

Explore nature

There’s something special about getting out of the city via bike and embracing nature just nearby. The Wissahickon and the woodlands are a stone throw away from Center City and allow me a place to play and explore with my child-like curiosity. When you live in the center of town, surrounded by noise, it feels really good to be alone, surrounded by nature. This is why I love Philadelphia. We have an amazing and walkable city, but also many green spaces. This is the number one thing I really cherish about my hometown that I take full advantage of.

Pure fun

Honestly, cycling is just pure fun. I don’t like to bike for exercise, cardio, or any fitness reasons. I genuinely enjoy biking because it’s a fun experience overall. It’s exhilarating, and allows me to be in a state of movement, exploring new terrain at a fast pace. It’s an easy way for me to get my adrenaline up. Also, I prefer biking over driving because you’re actually physical and outside in the elements. This seems to be a much more enjoyable experience compared to sitting behind the wheel of a car in my opinion. I personally only ride my bike along the trail because I want to stay safe and just have some fun with it. In terms of transportation, I’ll stick to walking with my camera. It’s easy enough for me to get around the city by foot. When I want to enjoy myself and have a great adventure, I always take advantage of Philadelphia’s bike trail.
