Why you should start making photographs

I believe that everyone should start making photographs. Why? It’s very simple. Photography is a key that unlocks many doors in life that you cannot open otherwise. The camera becomes a passport to life itself and allows you to bear witness and experience life to the fullest.

It’s pure fun

At the end of the day, photography is fun! Photography is a way for you to explore the world openly and honestly. Whatever catches your eye, you can then investigate and dig deeper to understand the world around you. Sometimes we get caught up with taking photography too seriously, making projects for a particular reason, or picking up the camera with some sort of political motivation… These things kill the joy of photography. The supreme approach is to embrace photography as a fun hobby. Recognize that further meaning within your work will arise with time. Spend your time photographing for yourself, fueling your own curiosities, and treat the photographs as a reflection of your soul.

Remember forever

The beauty of the medium is the fact that you can retrace your steps. When I look back through my archive, I am filled with joy as the photographs depict what I’ve witnessed and experienced in my lifetime. This simple fact alone is a motivating factor for me to continue making photographs. There’s something so special about legacy and leaving something behind on this earth that you created. The photographs that we make can perhaps live on forever and treating them as such is a powerful mindset. The work helps us remember the moments that are otherwise forgotten. Through the medium, we can find wonder within our memory and share this with others.

Experience everyday anew

My favorite reason why you should start making photographs is the fact that it allows you to treat every day anew. What this means is, you will wake up in the morning recognizing the infinite possibilities that are outside your door. Photographing will fuel your motivation to keep going out there into the unknown. Ultimately, my goal is to experience life to its fullest potential. Use photography as a medium, to propel your body into chaos with open arms and curiosity. You never know who you will meet, where you will go, and what you will find. Photography is a super power that will keep you wandering, curious, and courageous throughout life.
