Chutzpah

“Chutzpah” is a Yiddish word that has entered the English language and is used to describe someone who has audacity or boldness, often in a way that is admired for its courage or cheekiness. It can be both a positive and a negative trait, depending on the context. For example, a person who takes a big risk in starting a new business might be said to have chutzpah, as could someone who behaves in an overly brazen or impudent manner.

The shield of Achilles

The Shield of Achilles, famously described in Homer’s epic poem “The Iliad,” is an iconic and intricate piece of ancient literature. It’s described as a beautifully crafted shield made by the god Hephaestus for Achilles, featuring detailed imagery that represents various aspects of life and the cosmos.

The shield is often depicted as circular with a series of concentric circles or bands, each depicting different scenes. These typically include representations of the sky, the sea, the earth, and the underworld. There are scenes of daily life, such as weddings and agricultural activities, alongside images of war and conflict. Other details might include the sun, the moon, and constellations, symbolizing the larger universe.

Why high contrast black and white?

Honestly, the world just seems surreal sometimes. There’s a sublime beauty that I find in life itself that I desire to uplift. The use of high contrast black white allows me to abstract mundane moments, and create something out of nothing.

It’s simple, aesthetically pleasing, and evokes the sublime nature of life.

INTUITION IS KING

Don’t overthink. Just shoot!

Compositions made from intuition are much more soulful than traditional notions of what makes a “good” photograph.

Internal VS External

The terms “internal” and “external” in the context of art and productivity refer to different sources of motivation, inspiration, and influences:

  1. Internal (Art and Productivity):
    • Inspiration: Comes from within the artist or individual. This includes personal feelings, thoughts, experiences, and imagination.
    • Motivation: Is self-driven. The artist or worker is motivated by personal goals, satisfaction, or the intrinsic joy of creating or accomplishing tasks.
    • Approach: Often introspective and reflective. The creative process or productivity style is influenced by personal insights and inner dialogues.
    • Output: Tends to be highly original and personal. Art or work produced is often a direct expression of the individual’s identity, emotions, or thoughts.
  2. External (Art and Productivity):
    • Inspiration: Comes from outside sources such as the environment, other artworks, social contexts, or external events.
    • Motivation: Often influenced by external rewards or recognition, such as financial incentives, praise, or market trends.
    • Approach: Involves responding to external stimuli or requirements. This might include adapting to trends, audience preferences, or external demands in the workplace.
    • Output: May be more aligned with current trends, societal norms, or client/audience expectations. The art or work might reflect broader themes rather than deeply personal ones.

In practice, most artists and professionals experience a blend of both internal and external factors influencing their work. The balance between these two can vary greatly depending on the individual and the specific context of their work.

State of the Art

The term “state of the art” refers to the highest level of development achieved at a given time in a particular field or technology. It represents the most advanced and sophisticated techniques, methods, or achievements that are currently available, often resulting from ongoing research and innovation. This term is commonly used to describe cutting-edge technologies, processes, or practices that are at the forefront of what is possible in their respective areas.
